SCOUTING DAYTON: The Flyers are 2-3 in the PFL with wins over Davidson (42-21) and Valparaiso (53-20). Their first conference loss came at Marist (28-17) and their last two games have been setbacks to San Diego (36-34) and Drake (28-17). Dayton is a balanced team that has five different players averaging 40+ receiving yards per game. TE Adam Trautman leads the club with 438 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Their top WR is Ryan Skibiski with 344 yards and three TD's. Tucker Yinger is a dual threat that leads the team in rushing (81.4) and ranks fifth on the team in receiving (42.8). Yinger and QB Jack Cook each have five rushing touchdowns this season. The touchdown vulture on the Dayton roster is RB Richie Warfield. The 5-11, 212-pound redshirt freshman has 10 touchdowns on just 41 carries.
Dayton QB Jack Cook averages 239.5 yards of passing per game. He has 13 passing TD's in 2018 and is approaching 2,000 yards (1,916).
ALL-TIME SERIES: Dayton leads the all-time series over Butler 29-12-1.
Butler's last win over Dayton came in 2013 (33-30). Their last home win over Dayton was the previous season (21-11).
LAST MEETING: Dayton defeated Butler 27-22 last year by outscoring the Bulldogs 17-0 in the second half.
Pace Temple caught seven passes for 126 yards last year vs. Dayton, but Adam Trautman would score the game-winning touchdown on a two-yard pass with 9:20 to play in the fourth quarter.
ALL-TIME GREAT: Pace Temple heads into the weekend with 192 career receptions to total 2,872 yards. He ranks second all-time at Butler in career receiving yards and is now tied for second all-time in receptions. Temple needs 123 yards to pass Zach Watkins (08-11) for the top spot in receiving yards and 63 catches to break Watkins' career receptions record.
Temple will attempt to become just the seventh PFL player to reach 3,000 career receiving yards.
100-YARD TEAMMATES: Pace Temple and
Stephen Dennis each topped 100 receiving yards vs. San Diego. The last time BU had two WR reach 100+yards in the same game was Sept. 20, 2014. Marquese Martin-Hayes had 159 yards on 10 catches and teammate Brandon Collins had 100 yards on five grabs.
TRIO OF TARGETS: Three Bulldogs have over 100-yards receiving this year.
Pace Temple leads all players with 605 yards and
Stephen Dennis is second on the team with 315.
Anthony Scaccia has been great out of the backfield, reaching 112 receiving yards on 11 catches.
Brad Sznajder and Sam Yeaton will be the next Bulldogs to reach 100+ receiving yards this season. Sznajder heads into the weekend with 94 yards on 20 catches, Yeaton has 95 yards on just seven grabs.
MARTY MAKES HIS MARK: QB
Will Marty continues to climb the all-time passing yards top-ten list at Butler. Marty heads into Saturday with 4,285 career passing yards, the seventh-highest total in school history. He is just 276 yards shy of sixth (Curt Roy '79-'83).
Marty set new season-high totals vs. San Diego with 317 passing yards on 46 attempts. His 25 completions also tied his season-high total, originally set at Youngstown State.
ITS GOOD: Butler kicker
Drew Bevelhimer has made 32 field goals during his Bulldog career, just four shy of the all-time career school record. The BU record currently belongs to David Lang who hit 35 field goals from 2008-11.
Drew Bevelhimer's longest made field goal at Butler was a 47-yarder. He connected on the kick vs. Franklin during the 2016 season.
FLIP THE FIELD: Punter
Evan Giebel is averaging 38.0 yards per punt this season. He booted a 51-yard punt last week vs. San Diego
Giebel's longest punt this year was a 58-yarder, recorded at home vs. Morehead State. The redshirt-senior has now landed seven punts inside the opponent 20-yard line. He did it twice vs. San Diego.
FIND THE WIN COLUMN: The Bulldogs are 0-3 during the month of October. The last time BU went winless in October was 2007.
Dayton has defeated Butler in each of the last four meetings.
BRUNNER REACHES 100 CAREER TACKLES: Mason Brunner made seven tackles against San Diego to take his career total to 104.
Brunner leads BU in tackles for loss with six.
GEERS GRABS THE BALL: Senior defensive end
Mark Geers made a spectacular play vs. San Diego by stripping RB Terrence Smith. Geers forced the fumble, recovered the ball and ran 15-yards down the field. He is one of two players in the PFL to force two fumbles this year.
Luke Sennett forced a fumble vs. San Diego at the one-yard line denying a Torero touchdown. He punched the ball out of Bandy's hand for a touchback.
UP NEXT: Butler will play at Jacksonville next Saturday, Nov. 3. The Dolphins are 1-4 this year and winless in the PFL.
