SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE: The Dolphins are 1-6 this season, and are still searching for their first PFL win. Butler will need to slow down the Jacksonville ground attack in order to earn the win. Jacksonville ranks second in the PFL in rushing offense (328.6), but they are last in passing offense (42.7). The one dimensional approach allows QB Calvin Turner Jr. to post monster numbers. The sophomore leads the PFL in rushing yards (1,148), rushing yards per game (164.0), and touchdowns (14). He is coming off a four touchdown game at San Diego where he rushed for 202 yards. Turner Jr. has rushed for 100+ yards in six of seven games this year. He made a position change in 2018 after starting his career at Jacksonville as a defensive back. Turner Jr. played in 10 games a year ago playing primarily on special teams. The switch has not helped the Dolphin passing attack however as Turner Jr. has only attempted 43 passes this season, connecting on 18 for 286 yards.
Calvin Turner Jr. has rushed for 200+ yards three times this season. 202 at Davidson, 202 at San Diego and 201 vs. St. Augustine.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Jacksonville leads the all-time series against Butler 8-3, but the Bulldogs have won three of the last four meetings. The first meeting between the two clubs was played in 2005 at Jacksonville. The Dolphins won the first seven meetings.
Three of the last four meetings between Butler and Jacksonville have been played in Indianapolis. Butler's last trip to Jacksonville ended in a 45-27 victory.
LAST MEETING: Butler won the battle up front last year vs. Jacksonville helping them record a 37-22 win. The Bulldogs rushed for 232 yards and four touchdowns.
Will Marty also added a TD through the air. He hit
Pace Temple from 18-yards out just seconds before the end of the first half.
Pace Temple hauled in six catches for 94 yards and a TD last year vs. Jacksonville.
CLOSER THAN IT LOOKS: Jacksonville lost three games at the start of October by a combined 13 points. Davidson beat them by a touchdown, and both Marist and Stetson would win by three over the Dolphins.
Butler ends the regular season playing Stetson 11/10) and Davidson (11/17).
STOP THE RUN: Butler gave up 279 rushing yards vs. Dayton with RB Tucker Yinger accounting for 222 yards on the ground. Yinger broke a 71-yard run, marking the longest of the season against the BU defense.
Butler has allowed five 100-yard rushers this season. Only one QB has reached 100-yards on the ground (Morehead State / 109, 1 TD).
PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF: Butler scored a touchdown on their final two drives of the game vs. Dayton. The 'Dawgs covered 75 yards in just six plays (2:31) to set up Marty's keeper and an eight-play, 77-yard drive would follow with Marty hitting Sznajder for 29 yards.
Butler has scored 47 points in the fourth quarter this year. Their highest point total of any quarter falls in the second (52).
POINTS OFF TURNOVER: Butler scored their first points off an opponent turnover last week vs. Dayton.
Dalton Rogers forced a fumble that was recovered by
Luke Sennett. The following drive lasted 10 plays and covered 73 yards resulting in a 22-yard pass from Marty to Schwantz.
Marty's touchdown throw to Schwantz was his first passing TD to a tight end since week 1 at Youngstown State.
HIT YOUR STRIDE: Butler scored 28 points in the setback to Dayton, posting their second-highest point total of the season. BU averages 18.6 points per game, but the Dolphins are allowing 37.3 points per game.
Jacksonville has given up 40 or more points in four of their seven games this season.
ALL-TIME GREAT: Pace Temple heads into the weekend with 197 career receptions to total 2,927 yards. He ranks second all-time at Butler in career receiving yards and receptions. Temple needs 67 yards to pass Zach Watkins (08-11) for the top spot in receiving yards and 57 catches to break Watkins' career receptions record.
Temple will become just the seventh PFL player to reach 3,000 career receiving yards.
MARTY MAKES HIS MARK: QB
Will Marty continues to climb the all-time passing yards list at Butler. Marty heads into Saturday with 4,552 career passing yards, the seventh-highest total in school history. He is just nine yards shy of sixth (Curt Roy '79-'83).
