INDIANAPOLIS – Two-time First Team All-BIG EAST selection
Anna Logan will miss the upcoming 2018 Butler volleyball season due to injury (back). The talented outside hitter will redshirt and return to Butler for her senior season of eligibility in 2019.
"Anna played through two significant injuries during the 2017 season," Head Coach
Sharon Clark explained. "We will certainly miss her presence this year, but I'm happy knowing that she is doing what needs to be done in order to get healthy."
Logan played in 21 of 31 matches a year ago, making her debut Sept. 15 against Evansville. She ended the year with 253 kills, 271 digs, 50 blocks and 21 service aces. The previous year, Logan was recognized as an AVCA honorable mention All-American. She led Butler, the BIG EAST and ranked ninth in the NCAA with 578 kills.
"I want Anna to end her senior year the way it should be, with her playing at a very high level," Clark added. "She has been an impact player for us throughout her career and that won't change this season. Anna is still a leader on this team and she has such a great volleyball IQ. It's been great to see her coach up some of her younger teammates. Not only does it keep her engaged, but she can help relate to them in a way that maybe our staff cannot."
Logan was slated to be one of three seniors on the 2018 team joining
Bri Lilly and
Taylor Takeda. This trio helped Butler reach 23 wins a year ago, the second-highest total under the guidance of Clark. They ended the 2017 campaign in third place of the conference standings, making a trip to the BIG EAST Tournament. Lilly and Takeda will embrace leadership roles this fall, while Logan eyes her return for 2019.
"Anna had planned on graduating from Butler early so this injury will not change her plan," Clark stated. "She will enroll in graduate school and be back with us in 2019. We clearly wish her the best and our thoughts are with her during this time of recovery."
