SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE: The Eagles picked up a 30-22 win at Jacksonville to even their overall record at 3-3. The victory moves Morehead State to 1-1 in the PFL standings. Andrew Foster and Vaughn Taylor Jr. stood out in the win over the Dolphins on Saturday. Foster hit three field goals (43, 45, 37) and three extra points to score 12 points in the outcome. Defensively, Taylor had 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
Morehead State scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the game to win at Jacksonville. DeAndre Clayton gave the Eagles a one-point lead at 23-22 and an insurance TD from Issiah Aguero with 1:43 left would seal the win. Aguero had two TD's on the day, one on a 49-yard pass from Mark Pappas and his second was a 24-yard run.
Andrew Foster was named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday, and teammate Vaughn Taylor Jr. earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Morehead State leads the all-time series 14-8. The Bulldogs have won the last two meetings (24-21, 2018 / 44-6, 2017).
The first meeting between Butler and Morehead State was played in 1963. The Eagles won at home 31-13. Butler's first win over Morehead State came in 2001 29-27.
LAST YEAR VS. MOREHEAD STATE: Butler posted a 24-21 win against Morehead State last year by outscoring the Eagles 10-7 in the second half.
Brad Sznajder led BU to victory with 105 rushing yards. He scored the final touchdown of the first half to tie the game at 14-14.
Stephen Dennis also found success vs. MSU. He caught three passes for 33 yards and was responsible for the first Butler TD of the game. Defensively, Butler relied on
Mason Brunner and
Luke Sennett to get stops. Brunner ended the game with a team-high 12 tackles. Sennett also hit double figures with 10.
Each team scored a TD on their first possession last year. Butler used 11 plays to travel 70 yards for their score. MSU scored after a 13-play drive that also covered 70 yards.
JOHNNY WINS JUMP BALL: WR
Johnny O'Shea jumped over Drake defender and dove head first into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7 on Saturday. O'Shea posted career numbers with 71 receiving yards coming on three catches.
A double pass set up Butler's first points of the game vs. Drake. Sam Brown threw the ball behind the line of scrimmage to TE Joey Lindstrom. Lindstrom would get the ball to O'Shea near the goal line on the final play of the first quarter.
SENNETT LEADS SECONDARY: Luke Sennett is averaging 12 tackles per game over Butler's last three contests. He hit double figures for the first time at Princeton with 14 stops. He followed that effort with a season-high 15 tackles at Stetson in the PFL opener.
Sennett topped 100 tackles as a junior with 104 total. He now has 219 tackles in his BU career.
ON THE OUTSIDE: Preseason All-PFL selection Josh Poe will go up against 2018 Co-Freshman Defensive Player of the Year
Mickey Kane on Saturday. Poe plays right tackle for the Eagles. He is one of two seniors on the MSU offensive line.
Morehead State leads the PFL with 13 sacks. Butler ranks last in the category with just three.
UP NEXT: Butler will host Jacksonville on Saturday, Oct. 26. Homecoming weekend will feature a 1 PM kick-off.
Jacksonville won a shoot-out last year 48-44. The game-winning TD was scored with just five seconds left on the game clock.
