Day 1 Results (PDF)  |  Saturday Meet Program (PDF)

The first day of the 2019 BIG EAST Indoor Championships has concluded at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, with the Bulldogs in third place in both the men's and women's standings. Butler has also positioned itself well with a number of athletes advancing to finals in Saturday's schedule of events.

The majority of the finals will take place on Saturday as the meet concludes.  The BIG EAST Digital Network will continue to stream the event just as they did on Friday, through the FOX Sports GO app.

Butler currently is third overall in team scoring in both the men's and women's competitions, with 27 and 26 points, respectively. Marquette currently leads the men's teams, while the Villanova women are first.

On the men's side, the day started with strong performances in the 60-meter heptathlon dash by both Richard Clark and Wade Walder.  Clark and Walder finished first and second respectively with times of 7.04 and 7.20.  The Bulldog duo would continue to have strong heptathlon performances throughout the rest of the day.  Walder had the best shot-put mark in the heptathlon at 13.40m (43'11.75") and cleared the highest mark in the high jump with a jump of 1.94m (6'4.25").  At the end of day one, Walder leads the event overall with a score of 2,970 and Clark is third with a score of 2,803.  On Saturday they will finish the heptathlon by competing in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and the 1000-meter run.

In addition to their heptathlon performances, both Clark and Walder added on solid performances in stand-alone events. Clark will be running in the 60-meter dash finals on Saturday after almost breaking the school indoor record with a time of 6.95; just 0.01 off the record. In the pole vault, Walder cleared a mark of 4.45m (14'7.25"), good for fifth overall.

Euan Makepeace finished the 5000-meter run in third place. He finished in 14:20.60 behind two Villanova runners, Andrew Marston and Casey Comber. The teammates finished together as their times were 14:18.32 and 14:18.59 respectively.

Sophomore Jacob Uhl qualified for the 400-meter dash finals after running a personal best 48.51 in his heat. Overall, Uhl's time was the second-fastest qualifying mark, only behind Lawrence Leake of Georgetown who ran a 48.03.

Johnny Leverenz will also advance to Saturday, as his time of 1:52.49 in the 800-meter run was second-best in his heat.

The men's distance medley team of Eric Baugh, Connor Fuller, Chandler McGaha, and Leverenz finished fourth with a time of 10:02.30. Villanova won the medley in 9:50.45.

In the field, Luke Russell took home second in the long jump with a mark of 7.09m (23'3.25").  The top spot went to Samuel Johnson of Marquette, who posted a leap of 7.15m (23'5.5").  Sam Robinson finished fifth with a mark of 6.94m (22'9.25").  Both Russell and Robinson will compete Saturday in the high jump.
