FLORENCE, Ala. – North Alabama posted an 8-5 win over Butler on Tuesday night at Mike Lane Field. Butler had eight hits by eight different players, but their comeback attempt would fall short in the ninth inning.
Butler scored all five of their runs in the final four innings of action. North Alabama held a 3-0 advantage in the contest after five full innings, but the 'Dawgs would break onto the scoreboard in the sixth thanks to a double from
Duncan Hewitt.
The BU catcher came up with a one-out extra base hit and was moved around to score after an RBI single from
Brody McGrath.
BU would add a run in the seventh on a
James Gargano sac fly that scored
Zach Jarosz. The scoreboard moved to 4-2 at that moment, but North Alabama countered with a three-run seventh.
The two teams swapped one run in the eighth and the Bulldogs would try to make things interesting with a home run in the top of the ninth. The round-tripper from
Andy Bennett came with two outs and Butler would not get any closer as they move to 8-6 on the season.
Joe Graziano was hit with the loss on the mound while Adam Mancour was credited with the win. Graziano threw four innings and struck out three batters. He was followed on the hill by
Quentin Miller,
Jack Myers and
Greg Gilbert.
The Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow with a game at Alabama A&M.
