The Bulldogs finished fifth in the eight-team Benbow Invitational after the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Butler shot a 633 (+57), with a 315 in the first 18 holes and 318 in the final 18. Youngstown State finished first in the event with a 606 (+30).
Radford (617, +41) came from the fourth spot after the first round to take second place. Northwood (626, +50) finished third.
The annual event is named for Don Benbow, the Butler Athletics Hall of Famer who passed away Monday. Benbow had a storied career at Butler as a student-athlete, coach and administrator.
Butler's top finish belonged to
Claire Edwards, who finished with a 14-over 158 on the 6,102-yard Blue Sky course. She ended the final 18 holes with an 81 and a team-best 77 in the first round. The freshman finished 19
th overall.
Lauren Tibbets and
Katelyn Le finished tied for 20
th, both shooting a 15-over 159.
Megan Skoog followed with a 17-over 161 for 29
th overall.
Ally Ross rounded out the Butler scoring five with a 18-over 162. She finished 30
th overall.
Radford's Beatriz Mosquera Quintas finished first with an even-par 144. Laila Forstmane of Eckerd finished second with a five-over 149. Three individuals finished tied for third.
Playing as individuals,
Betsy Werner finished with a 172, while
Nicole Jordan posted a 175.
The Bulldogs return to action on March 14, competing in the Savannah Invitational hosted by Savannah State University.
