Host Villanova heated up from the field in the second half to pull away for a 75-54 win over Butler Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
Phil Booth led the Wildcats with 28 points. He made 10-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Eric Paschall and Saddiq Bey added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
With the win, Villanova improves to 22-8 on the season and 13-4 in BIG EAST play. Butler is now 15-14 (6-10 BIG EAST).
Villanova shot 52 percent from the field for the game, including a 54 percent clip in the second half. After starting the game by making only three of their first 14 attempts from the field, Villanova made 17 of their next 22 attempts to take a 51-34 lead with 12:37 remaining.
Conversely, the Bulldogs were cold for much of the day after taking an early nine-point lead with 8:20 to play in the first half.
Paul Jorgensen led the Bulldogs with 11 points, which gives him an even 1,000 for his Butler career.
Kamar Baldwin added 10.
The Bulldogs shot 38 percent from the field (23-of-61), making only 10 of their 34 attempts in the second half (29 percent). Villanova also held the advantage on the glass, with 37 rebounds compared to only 29 by Butler.
Butler held the lead for a good portion of the first half before a 10-0 run gave Villanova a 27-23 lead with 3:24 to play. The host Wildcats held a 33-30 halftime lead.
