@ButlerUBaseball Wins Game One vs. Purdue Fort Wayne 7-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Butler moved to 6-5 on the season with a 7-1 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday afternoon. The game was played at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on the campus of Northern Kentucky. The contest was stopped after six full innings due to rain.

Ryan Pepiot tossed all six frames for BU to pick up his second win of the season. The junior right-hander struck out seven of the first nine batters that he faced on Saturday and would end the game with 10 total strikeouts. Pepiot didn't issue a walk and limited the Mastodons to just three hits.

The offense was provided by Harrison Freed and Duncan Hewitt. Each Bulldog ended the game with two RBI. Freed went 2-for-3 in the game and Hewitt went 1-for-2 with two walks.

Freed gave Butler a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple to deep centerfield. Robbie McCargar would come all the way around to score from first base.

The second run of the game came home after a Hewitt single back up the middle of the field in the fourth inning.

The 2-0 BU advantage would be cut in half in the fifth. The Mastodons would break up Pepiot's perfect game with a single from Brunson. A two-out RBI double to left would allow him to score making the game 2-1.

The game would end soon after with rain coming down in the area. The Bulldogs would add five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off the PFW bullpen. The five runs came off just one hit.

These two teams will share the field again tomorrow for a doubleheader. Start time is slated for 12 PM.
