Butler Notes

Last weekend, the Bulldogs sent a group of runners to Raleigh N.C. to compete in the Raleigh Relays.  The weekend saw personal bests and strong finishes while the rest of the team stayed on the Butler campus to train and prepare for the rest of their season.  This weekend those groups will switch places, as most of those who ran at Raleigh will now stay on campus to train as the rest of the team heads to Terre Haute to compete.

"With the exception of Allie Vogeler and Wade Walder, our group that ran at NC State will be on campus training this week.  Our athletes who had a bye week last week will be our representative group this weekend at Indiana State," said Butler head coach Matt Roe.  "The forecast looks favorable and we are excited to see the progress they have made since our last competition at Vanderbilt."

Sprints

On the track, the day will start with the 100-meter dash prelims for both the men and women.

The Bulldog men will have four runners compete in the event as Jake Bowers, Colton Haymon, Jake Kellersohn, and Wade Walder will all try and set personal bests.

Haymon currently has the second-fastest 100-meter dash time in the BIG EAST at 11.08, only behind teammate Richard Clark (10.86).

Walder is coming off a strong weekend as he is one of two runners who will compete after running in Raleigh, where he finished with the second fastest time in school history in the 110-meter hurdles (14.73).

The women will have a pair of runners take on the 100-meters as Carson Fields and Rebecca Collester head to the starting line.

Both Fields and Collester have had success in the event in this season.  Collester is coming off a personal best time of 12.57 that she ran at Vanderbilt two weeks ago and Fields has had similar success as she ran a 12.61 at the same meet.

The 200-meter dash will have four Bulldogs compete for both the men's and women's competitions.

For the men, Haymon and Kellersohn will be joined by Connor Fuller and Luke Hofrichter.  Two weeks ago at Vanderbilt, Haymon finished fourth overall in his section of the 200-meters with a solid time of 22.46.  He will look to beat that time this weekend.

Vogeler will run the 200-meters this weekend after winning the 400-meter hurdles last weekend in N.C.  She will be joined by Fields, Madeline Miller, and Niki Ezeh.  Miller set a personal best time of 26.54 in this event at Vanderbilt and this will be the first time Ezeh has ran the 200 this season.

Wrapping up the sprints will be the 400-meters, and the Bulldogs will have strong representation.

Sophomore Jacob Uhl will lead the men.  Uhl has the fastest 400-meter time for Butler this season at 48.88 which he ran at Vanderbilt.  Joining Uhl will be Clark, Fuller, and Walder.  Clark has not run the 400 this season but is coming off a personal best 100-meter time of 10.86 that he set at Vanderbilt.  That time is also the fastest in the BIG EAST.  Fuller ran a 51.61 in this event two weeks ago.

The women's 400 will see familiar faces as all four runners have competed in the event this season.  The group is led by Lily Hess who ran a personal best time of 58.15 two weeks ago and has the best time in the event this season for Butler.  She will be joined by Collester, Miller, as well as Angela Neddeau, who also ran a personal best time of 1:00.78 at Vanderbilt.

Middle Distance

Three Bulldogs will run the 800-meters with Emma Bailey and Corinna Pena for the women and Chandler McGaha for the men.  Pena is another runner who is coming of a personal best at Vanderbilt, as she ran a 2:17.29 in the 800, and set a personal best in the 1500 with a time of 4:35.08.  Bailey will make her season debut.

Nick Robie is the lone Bulldog running the 1500 this week.  This is the first time Robie has competed in the event.

Long Distance

The 5000-meters is the lone long-distance event in this weekend's meet and it will be highlighted by the event debuts of five out of the six Bulldogs competing.

The lone Bulldog who has run the 5000-meters collegiately is Clare McCabe.  McCabe's personal best time of 17:54.16 was set April 1 of 2017 at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.

The five Bulldogs running in the event for the first time are Robie, Andrew Taylor, and Blake Roberts for the men, with Allison Miller and Elizabeth Hinkle debuting for the women.

Hurdles

Freshman McKenzie Greene will lead the hurdles as she currently has the fastest 100-meter hurdles time on the team at 15.01.  She will be joined in the 100-meter hurdles this weekend by Nina Hilt, Karmen Koch, and Ariel Higgins.

Garrett Kern and Bowers will run hurdles for the men.  Kern will run the 110-meters and Bowers the 400.  Bowers is coming off a personal best 400-meter hurdles time of 1:02.59 that he ran at Vanderbilt.

Field

BIG EAST long jump leader Sam Robinson will compete for the first time since he set his personal best mark of 7.08m (23'2.75") at Vanderbilt.  He will be joined by Luke Russell, who has the fourth best BIG EAST mark in the event, as well as Clark, and Hofrichter.

Robinson will also compete in the high jump as the lone Butler representative on the men's side.

On the women's side of the jumps, Hilt and Koch will compete in both the long and high jumps, with Ezeh joining them in the long jump.

Hilt, Ezeh, and Koch, will also compete in the javelin throw and will be joined by Molly Kracht.

Koch and Kracht have experience in the event this season as they both competed at the Stan Lyons Invitational earlier this year and each have top ten BIG EAST marks.  Koch's mark of 33.18m (108'10") is seventh and Kracht's mark of 29.78m (97'8") is tenth.

Robinson and Hofrichter will compete in javelin on the men's side.  Robinson currently has the sixth best BIG EAST mark at 39.50m (129'7")

Men's discus will see Clark and Walder compete to cap off the field events for Butler.

Relay

Butler will have one relay team this weekend, competing in the women's 4x100 meters.  Running for Butler will be Hess, Collester, Fields, and Vogeler.
