Butler swept BIG EAST weekly track and field honors on the men's side after a pair of standout performances in the team's final competition prior to the 2019 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The conference office made the announcement Monday, May 6.
Â
Euan Makepeace earned the men's track athlete of the week award. Makepeace took home the win in the 1,500 meters at the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University as he finished with a time of 3:43.92, nearly a full five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. That time is third in the BIG EAST this outdoor season and 12th on the NCAA East qualifying list at this point in 2019. Makepeace's time moves him into ninth all-time on the Butler school record book for the event.
Â
His teammate,
Luke Russell, is the BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Russell moved into the top spot on the BIG EAST leaderboard in the long jump as he passed teammate
Sam Robinson with a personal-best mark of 7.28m, which was good for third in the event at the Billy Hayes Invitational.Â
