Butler assistant coach Emerson Kampen has been announced as a member of the 2020 National Association of Basketball Coaches Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team, representing 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30. The NABC made the announcement Tuesday, June 2.
 
Kampen has been a member of the Butler coaching staff since he graduated in 2013. In his role as an assistant coach, Kampen is involved in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, skill development, and scouting. He serves as the program's defensive coordinator.

Kampen transitioned into an assistant coach role when LaVall Jordan was named head coach prior to the 2017-18 season. He had served as the basketball analyst for the two seasons prior, having previously held assistant coach and graduate assistant positions.

The 2019-20 Bulldogs finished the season 22-9 and ranked in the Top 25 of both national polls. The Bulldogs were included in every 2020 NCAA Tournament projection before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the remainder of the season. It would have marked Butler's sixth consecutive postseason appearance with Kampen on the staff. 

Butler's defense allowed only 62.1 points per game in 2019-20, finishing 11^th nationally.
