Butler ran past Chaminade, 84-51, Wednesday night in their final game of the Maui Invitational, which has been played in Las Vegas over the past three days.
Freshman
Jayden Taylor led four Bulldogs in double figures with a career-best 21 points. He made six of his nine attempts from the field and went 8-for-9 at the free throw line.
Ty Groce scored 18 points (8-for-9 from the field) to post a new Butler-high for the graduate transfer.
Bryce Golden had a season-high 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Jair Bolden added 12.
Butler shot 63 percent from the field, including a 9-of-18 mark from behind the arc. The Bulldogs had 19 assists on 29 made field goals and hit 17 of their 19 free throw attempts. Bolden had six assists.
The Bulldogs shot 64 percent in the first half to take a 45-29 lead after the first 20 minutes. Butler made eight of its first 10 attempts from the field in starting out the game with an 18-2 spurt. The 33-point final margin was the largest of the game.
Aaron Thompson moved into fourth place on Butler's career assists list, passing Roosevelt Jones, in the contest. He now has 465 career assists.
Butler's defense limited Chaminade to 30-percent shooting from the field.
The Bulldogs were without
Chuck Harris, who missed Wednesday's game with a foot injury.
Bryce Nze,
Bo Hodges and
Myles Tate remained unavailable.
Butler is now 4-3 on the season.
Butler returns to action Tuesday, hosting Saginaw Valley State at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
