Behind the best team score of the day, the Bulldogs climbed to a second-place finish in the Butler Spring Invitational, hosted over the past two days at Highland Golf Club.
Butler's one-over 281 on Tuesday moved the Bulldogs into second place after starting the day in third. The Bulldogs jumped Valparaiso on Tuesday, finishing at 22-over 862.
Indian Hills Community College took the team title with a three-round total of 854 (+14). They entered Tuesday's final round with a 10-shot lead over Valpo and 12 shots ahead of Butler. The Bulldogs were able to make up four shots on the winners Tuesday and finished eight shots better than Valparaiso. There were 11 teams in the field.
With a final round one-over 71,
Logan Sabins tied for third. His final score of 212 (+2) was three shots behind medalist Antoine Sale of Indian Hills and two shots back of Valparaiso's Caleb VanArragon. Sabins shots rounds of 71, 70 and 71 over the 54-hole event.
Michael Cascino tied for the best round of the day with a one-under 69 Tuesday. That moved him into sixth at three-over 213. Cascino's Tuesday card included four birdies on the 6,551-yard Highland course.
Nick Williams finished in a tie for eighth at six-over 216. He was one-over (71) in the final round.
Raymond Sullivan shot an even-par 70 on Tuesday, finishing at 222 (+12) and in a tie for 19
th.
Stephen Kocerha rounded out the Butler five in a tie for 42
nd at 18-over 228. He shot 76 Tuesday.
Jack Wilcox, playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 32
nd (226; +16).
Augie Hartnagel (+24) placed 53
rd.
Up next for the Bulldogs is the Wright State Invitational, which begins April 18.
