Taylor and Thomas Selected to Indiana All-Star Team

Butler incoming recruits Jayden Taylor and Pierce Thomas have both been named Indiana All-Stars.

The Indiana All-Stars will play in the annual series against the Kentucky All-Stars on June 11 in Owensboro, Ky., and June 12 at Southport Fieldhouse. The All-Stars will play an exhibition game against the Junior All-Stars at Brownsburg on June 9.

The 6-4 Taylor averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game to lead Perry Meridian to a 12-9 record for its first winning season in six years. Taylor shot 50.3 % from the field, 37.6 % from the 3-point line and 78.5 from the free-throw line. Taylor scored 1,537 career points to rank second in school history.

The 6-6 Thomas averaged 21.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game to lead Brownsburg to a 13-9 record. He finished his four-year varsity career with 1,215 points, 449 rebounds, 334 assists and 114 steals. Thomas shot 38.4 % from the 3-point line as a senior. He helped Brownsburg to a 21-win season and a sectional title as a junior.

Earlier this month, all three members of Butler's incoming recruiting class were named to the ALL-USA Central Indiana boys basketball Super Team. Taylor and Thomas both were selected to the first team, while D.J. Hughes picked up third-team honors.

The 6-7 Hughes averaged 13.5 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds to help Lawrence North to a 28-3 record and a Class 4A state finals appearance. Hughes shot 66.3 % from the field. He also averaged 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He eclipsed the 1,000-point mark late in his senior season.
