Butler's
Michael Cascino finished off the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regional and his Bulldog career Wednesday afternoon as the 54-hole event concluded at The Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind. Â
Cascino tied for 56th overall as his Wednesday 79 moved him to 227 (+11) overall. He shot rounds of 75 and 73 over the first two days. There were 75 players in the field with Cascino as one of 10 individuals.
Cascino's Wednesday scorecard included three birdies on the par-72, 7,173-yard Jack Nicklaus Signature design. He was undone by a 10 on the 16
th that saw windy conditions put three balls in the water on the par-4.
Cascino's NCAA Regional performance caps one of the most accomplished careers in Butler golf history as the senior captured the 2021 BIG EAST title in a playoff to earn the Regional appearance.
Purdue's Cole Bradley shot a seven-under 65 Wednesday to take individual top honors and earn a berth in the upcoming NCAA Championships. He finished at 206 (-10), which was two shots better than West Virginia's Mark Goetz, who shot 68 Wednesday to finish at 208 (-8).
Texas captured the regional title with a 54-hole total of 844 (-20). That was five shots clear of Tennessee. North Carolina, Louisville and UAB grabbed the automatic bids to the NCAA Championships with their top-five finishes. UAB shot 275 (-13) Wednesday, the best round posted during the Regional by four strokes, to climb into fifth place. Â Â
The Sagamore Club is one of six regional sites across the country.
The top five teams from each regional, along with the highest finishing individual not associated with one of those teams, advance to the NCAA Championships to be held May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
