Butler's track and field program was well-represented at Olympic Trials around the world over the weekend as five Bulldogs competed against the best of the best from their respective countries.
The five Bulldogs include two alums in Olivia Pratt and Tom Anderson, in addition to three student-athletes who recently completed spring seasons in Indianapolis –
Simon Bedard,
Tom Pitkin and
Jonathan Besselink.
Olivia Pratt finished 25
th in the 10,000 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. She ran Saturday in Eugene, Ore. Pratt clocked a time of 33:11.88. There were 41 runners in the field. A record heatwave that has engulfed the northwest meant that the race was contested in 86-degree heat. Emily Sisson won the race in 31:03.82. Karissa Schweizer (31:16.52) and Alicia Monson (31:18.55) grabbed the other two spots on the U.S. Olympic Team.
At the British Olympic Trials, Tom Anderson registered a time of 13:55.23 in the 5,000 meters to place ninth. Patrick Dever won the event in 13:37.30.
Simon Bedard placed ninth in the 5,000 meters at the French Olympic Trials. Bedard posted a time of 13:57.72. Hugo Hay won the event, crossing the line in a time of 13:34.08.
Tom Pitkin finished sixth in the 400 meters at Ireland's Olympic Trials. Pitkin posted a time of 47.99 in the finals. He won his first-round heat (48.18) to earn a spot in the finals.
Jonathan Besselink finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Canadian Olympic Trials. Besselink ran a time of 9:09.49. John Gay won the event in a time of 8:20.68.
