Butler's offensive firepower was on full display Saturday night as the No. 7 Bulldogs dispatched Georgetown, 4-2, in a battle of BIG EAST powers. Senior
David Goldsmith netted two of the goals for Butler, which improves to 8-1-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in BIG EAST play.

Goldsmith now has 10 goals on the season, which keeps him among the Top 5 in the country.

The win was Butler's first against Georgetown in the four match-ups in the series. The Hoyas, who won the 2015 BIG EAST title and were ranked in the preseason Top 10 nationally, are now 3-7 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play.

Georgetown's Arun Basuljevic got the visitors on the board first in the 15
th minute, as a teammate found him in the middle of the box and he was able to score with a low shot. Butler answered five minutes later as
Isaac Galliford took a cross and scored.
Jared Timmer and
Marco Charalambous got the assists on the play.

Then it was Goldsmith with the first of his two goals.
Mitch Ostrowski fed him in the middle of the box in the 31
st minute and Goldsmith found the net for a 2-1 lead that the teams took into the half.

Freshman
Lewis Suddick and Galliford got loose in transition in the 55
th minute and Suddick was able to score an insurance goal for a 3-1 lead. The score stayed that way until the 88
th minute when Brendan McDonough was credited with a goal for Georgetown off a series of ricochets that involved Butler keeper
Eric Dick.

Less than 30 seconds later, Goldsmith intercepted a failed clear and got a shot over an extended Georgetown keeper to finish the match, 4-2.

Both teams were highly efficient with their shots as Butler had a 13-12 edge in shots. Eight of Butler's 13 shots were on goal. Goldsmith had a match-high six shots.

The match was extremely physical as the teams combined for 36 fouls and four yellow cards.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday night (Oct. 7) at 8 p.m. (Eastern, 7 p.m. Omaha) for a match-up with Creighton. Both teams are currently ranked in the Top 10 nationally. The match will be streamed live on BEDN, part of the Fox Sports Go app.
