INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's soccer team took a tough 1-0 loss on Sunday afternoon to the Providence Friars. The setback moves Butler to 8-3-2 overall, a record that includes a 1-1-1 mark against BIG EAST opponents.

The goal surrendered by Butler on Sunday was the first goal allowed by BU since Sept. 4. The score came off the foot of Rachel Ugolik, an unassisted goal that went down as her fifth of the season. Ugolik slipped past a BU defender and buried her shot in the right side of the net from 10 yards out.

"We played against a team that is incredibly hard-working," Co-Head Coach
Tari St. John stated. "They didn't give up for a single moment and I think that was the difference. We had a poor decision in our final third where we didn't clear a ball and that ended with their game-winning goal."

The goal came at the 56:47 mark in the second half. Butler became much more aggressive offensively after the play. The Bulldogs took eight shots in the second half compared to just two in the first.

"We started playing much better after the goal," St. John added. "That comes from adjustments from both sides, but I thought that we had enough possession to find a game-tying goal. Our decision making in the final third just wasn't as sharp as it usually is."

Serina Kashimoto led the team with four total shots. The only other Bulldog to take more than one was sophomore
Paige Monaghan.

"Our team hates to lose," St. John stated. "We will refocus and be motivated to work just a little bit harder on Thursday night vs. DePaul."

Butler will return to action Thursday night with a home match vs. DePaul. The contest will begin at 7 PM.
