Full Notes (PDF)

BACK TO THE BOWL: Butler returns to the Butler Bowl after being on the road for three straight contests. The Bulldogs take a quick break from BIG EAST play to host Evansville Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ButlerSports.com with live stats also available.

IN THE RANKINGS: Butler is ranked in the Top 15 of all four national polls. The Bulldogs are No. 10 in the College Soccer News poll and No. 12 in this week's TopDrawerSoccer rankings. The NSCAA poll will be updated Tuesday, but the Bulldogs were No. 10 a week ago. The SoccerAmerica poll will also be updated on Tuesday and the Bulldogs came in at No. 15 last week. Butler and Creighton are the only BIG EAST teams to be ranked this week.

BACK TO BACK: For the second week in a row, Butler's David Goldsmith has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week. Goldsmith also earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week as announced Sept. 19. Goldsmith had two goals, including the overtime game-winner, and added an assist in the Bulldogs' 3-2 (OT) win at Villanova Saturday in the BIG EAST opener.

ROAD WARRIOR: David Goldsmith has enjoyed his time on the road the past two weeks, putting up six goals and two assists in the team's three wins during that three-game stretch away from the Butler Bowl. Goldsmith did not have a point in the team's first three matches of the season.

UNBLEMISHED: Through the matches of Sunday, Sept. 18, Butler is one of just nine programs nationally that is unbeaten. Two of the others are on Butler's upcoming schedule (Indiana and Denver). In addition to Butler, Indiana and Denver, other teams without a loss thus far include Loyola (Chicago), Syracuse, Charlotte, High Point, Maryland, and San Diego State.

FIRE WHEN READY: David Goldsmith leads the nation in both shots and shots on goal, averaging 5.83 and 2.83 respectively in those two categories.

MARCO…GOAL-O: Sophomore Marco Charalambous has three goals on the season, with all three coming in the team's last four matches. He had the first goal of the match against Oregon State Sept. 11, proving to be the game-winner. He had one goal and four assists in 2015, earning a spot on the BIG EAST All-Newcomer Team.

TOP OF THE CHARTS: The NCAA keeps team statistics in 14 categories; Butler is ranked in the Top 10 nationally in nine of those 14 categories, including scoring offense (2.67 goals per game, third), points (8.17 per game, second) and shots (18.17 shots per game, fifth).

A STRONG WEEK OF WORK: Butler senior David Goldsmith was selected as the National Player of the Week by three outlets on Sept. 12 after an impressive weekend of play. The NSCAA, College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer each named Goldsmith as their recipient of the national weekly honor. Goldsmith was also named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.

WHAT EARNED HIM THE HONOR: Butler senior forward David Goldsmith had an impressive weekend, leading the Bulldogs to two strong wins. Goldsmith had four goals in two matches as Butler defeated #7 UC Santa Barbara Sept. 9, and followed that up with a win over Oregon State (rv) Sept. 11. The Bristol, England product had two goals and an assist in the team's 4-2 win over Santa Barbara. He added two goals in the 3-0 win over Oregon State. For the two matches, he combined for 16 shots.

ONE YEAR AGO: Vincent Mitchell broke a 2-2 tie in the closing seconds, finding the net to send Butler to the win on the road at Evansville Sept. 29. Mitchell's goal came with the Bulldogs playing a man-down for the final 21 minutes.

ON THE HORIZON: The Bulldogs have already played two teams that are ranked in the weekly polls: UC Santa Barbara and Louisville, which just defeated top-ranked Notre Dame over the weekend. The Bulldogs still have three ranked opponents on the upcoming schedule (NSCAA rankings): Indiana (#3), Denver (#8), and Creighton (#14).

ONE-TIMER; FIRST TIMER: Senior captain Mitch Ostrowski scored the first goal of his Butler career in the win over UC Santa Barbara, putting a one-timer in the goal off a deflected shot. He assisted on one of Goldsmith's goals Sept. 11, which was his third career assist in his 54 matches as a Bulldog.

LAST LINE OF DEFENSE: Goalkeeper Eric Dick has orchestrated shutouts in three of Butler's six matches thus far this season, posting a 0.96 goals against average. His three shutouts are tied for the BIG EAST lead. He has 22 saves on the season, highlighted by 10 saves in the regular season opener at Louisville. The total was just off his career-high of 12.

MARATHON MEN: In addition to goalie Eric Dick, defender Joe Moulden has played all 565 minutes so far this season. Mitch Ostrowski, David Goldsmith, Jared Timmer, and Kieran Geldenhuys have all played at least 547 minutes.

LAST MEN STANDING: Of the 10 BIG EAST teams, only one has yet to record a loss: Butler. Three BIG EAST teams have one loss, two teams have two losses, and four have three or more losses. (Loss totals through matches played Saturday, Sept. 17).

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: With 35 career goals entering Tuesday's match, senior David Goldsmith is third among active players in career goals. Despite missing four matches due to injury last season, Goldsmith finished third nationally in goals per game.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR: Butler's 2016 roster includes seven players from overseas. Six of the seven have started all six matches. David Goldsmith (England), Marco Charalambous (Cyprus), Kieran Geldenhuys (Dubai, UAE), and Joe Moulden (England) started a majority of the contests a season ago. They were joined in the Starting XI by a trio of freshmen in Alex Lehtinen (Finland), Lewis Suddick (England) and Isaac Galliford (England). Lehtinen has started five of the six matches.

FIRST OF MANY: Freshman Isaac Galliford scored the first goal of his Butler career Sept. 3 against SIUE, collecting a blocked shot and putting it by the Cougars keeper. Galliford also had a match-high six shots.

ON THE OFFENSIVE: Isaac Galliford (six), Marco Charalambous (five) and David Goldsmith (four) accounted for 15 of Butler's 18 shots against SIUE Sept. 3. Charalambous added a goal in the 89th minute of the match for the final 2-0 score.

NOT A BAD HOME DEBUT: Freshman Lewis Suddick scored three goals, posting a hat trick in just his second Butler match (Aug. 30) and leading the Bulldogs to a 4-2 win against IUPUI at the Butler Bowl. Suddick assisted on the fourth goal. For his efforts, Suddick earned a spot on the BIG EAST's five-player Weekly Honor Roll.

110 STRONG MINUTES: On a hot and humid night in Louisville, Ky., Butler and the host Cardinals played to a 0-0 draw in the 2016 regular season opener for both teams. Louisville had 23 shots and 11 corner kicks in the match.
