The Bulldogs take their final break from BIG EAST play Wednesday, traveling to Nashville, Tenn., to play Lipscomb in a non-conference affair. The kick is set for 4 p.m. (Central, 5 p.m. Eastern), and will be streamed via Lipscomb's YouTube channel.
Butler enters the contest with a record of 6-4-1. The Bulldogs are undefeated so far during the month of October (2-0-1). Wednesday's match at Lipscomb is the first of three consecutive road matches for the Bulldogs, who follow up the trip to Nashville with BIG EAST matches at Seton Hall Saturday and at Marquette Oct. 23.
The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the road this season, with the win coming at Providence Oct. 4. Butler is 5-2-1 at the Sellick Bowl so far this season.
Lipscomb, a member of the ASUN, is 3-6-1 so far in 2019. The Bisons have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past two seasons, including a run to the Round of 16 in 2018.
THE SERIES: Butler and Lipscomb have only met once previously. That was a 2-0 Bulldogs win in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The match, played in Indianapolis, featured two goals by
Brandon Guhl.
OF NOTE:
- Butler and Lipscomb have one common opponent so far in 2019: Evansville. Butler defeated the Purple Aces, 2-0, Sept. 2. On Sept. 10, Lipscomb and Evansville played to a 1-1 draw.
- Captain Jared Timmer saw his first action of 2019 in Butler's most recent match against DePaul after working back from a preseason injury. He logged the start, played 72 minutes and scored Butler's second goal.
- Rhys Myers, Joel Harvey and Brandon Guhl, each of whom missed the Akron match earlier in the week, also returned to the line-up against DePaul Saturday night. Harvey and Guhl had missed additional matches.
- Jack Haywood has seven assists on the season, a number that leads the BIG EAST and is tied for seventh nationally.
- Keeper Gabriel Gjergji made six saves against Akron Oct. 8 in picking up his third shutout of 2019 and the fourth clean sheet of his Butler career.
- After scoring the first two goals of his career in the Oct. 4 win over Providence, Brendan Hicks earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors Oct. 7.
- All three of freshman Wilmer Cabrera, Jr.'s goals have been game-winners, placing him second in the BIG EAST.
- Gjergji had eight saves Oct. 4 at Providence, which is one shy of his career-high set earlier this season at SIUE. His 4.73 saves per game lead the BIG EAST.
- The Bulldogs played three consecutive Top 10 opponents earlier this season. That included BIG EAST losses to Georgetown and St. John's, sandwiched around a 2-1 win over (then) No. 5 Indiana.
- Butler limited Wisconsin to only four shots in the win Sept. 12; it marked the fewest shots allowed by Butler since an Oct. 12, 2012 match against Richmond when the Spiders were also held to just four shots.
