Butler will host Michigan State in the Gavitt Tipoff Games with the teams meeting Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The teams last played in the national semifinals of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, a game that the Bulldogs won 52-50 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences announced the eight matchups for the sixth annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, set for Nov. 15-18, 2021. Game times and television network assignments will be announced at a later date. All games will be televised on FS1 or BTN.Â

Butler is 2-1 in the Gavitt Games, including a 2-0 mark at Hinkle Fieldhouse with wins over Minnesota (2019) and Northwestern (2016). The Bulldogs lost at Maryland in 2017.
Season tickets for the upcoming 2021-22 Butler men's basketball season are on sale now. Additional non-conference games will be announced in the coming weeks. Butler will also host all 10 BIG EAST opponents as part of its home schedule.Â

Throughout the series, which began in 2015, each BIG EAST team is scheduled to participate a minimum of six times, while Big Ten programs are slated to take part a minimum of four times.

The BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences mutually agreed to cancel last year's series after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the start of the 2020-21 NCAA basketball season and presented scheduling and timing issues.

The Gavitt Tipoff Games is a unique early-season series played between the two conferences and named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary. The late Gavitt had a profound and lasting influence on the sport of basketball at the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
